Earth Day Observance

On Friday, April 26th, the residents and staff of Beatitudes Campus are participating in the 2019 Earth Day Observance with what has been termed a “ March”. In keeping with this year's Earth Day emphasis on endangered species, many of the Campus's vibrant activity groups will represent a particular endangered species for attention. The short parade will be followed by a day-long series of informative, in-person and video presentations suggesting what efforts can be undertaken to slow down, or even prevent, the loss of plant and animal species vital to the and survival of life here on Earth.

The members of Elders for a Sustainable and the Earth Day Observance Committee invite and encourage any and all residents to attend or, even better, join the “Protect March”. There are signs and placards available, graciously contributed by Girl Scout Troops 66 and 2387 and the students at Maryland School. If you have a stuffed animal that represents an endangered species, please bring it along – and if you don't, contact Mark Pelkey at x15586 who corralled a fluffy herd on his recent to the wilds of California.

The Marchers will gather outside The Bistro at 10:00AM Friday morning and then proceed to The Everett Luther Life Center. En route, we will be chanting “Don't Let Them Disappear”. The Marchers and spectators will assemble in the Life Center where refreshments will be available as the featured speakers begin their presentations at 11:00AM.

Among the subjects to be addressed are, “Human and Animal Conflicts” – Kinley Ragan; “Recycling and How it Contributes to Planetary Health” – Phil Crowley; “Reptile and Amphibian Extinctions and What That Means to Humanity”- Tom Jones; “Salt River Watershed”- Tanya Hughes; and much more. Bob Longoni will share poetry relevant to the subject, and there will be music to harmonize with the intent of the day, including an original song by Igor Glenn. At conclusion, Ellen Palestrant will provide beautifully evocative graphics and commentary highlighting the we are seeking to preserve.

Please don't miss this opportunity to contribute to the preservation of the beauty and bounty of our one and only, Home Planet.

At the foundation of Beatitudes Campus is the vision of Church of the Beatitudes pastors and congregation members to create a better alternative for older adults than the nursing homes of the early 1960s. The type of community they imagined was the first of its kind in Arizona. Beatitudes Campus is proud to continue the legacy of our founders, by being a leader in the field of aging services for over 50 years.
