Boosting Independence – Part One

Beatitudes at Home and Beatitudes Home Health are different programs, but they both have the same goal in mind: To keep our residents as independent as possible for as long as possible.  This week I will be talking about Beatitudes at Home!

Beatitudes at Home is our supportive program that offers non-medical and medical services to our residents. Our non-medical services are provided by our amazing caregiving staff. Some of the services they can provide include laundry assistance, running errands, driving you to doctor’s appointments, light housekeeping, bed sheet changes and the list goes on. We generally have a 1 hour minimum for sending out a caregiver, although there are a few exceptions to that rule. We also offer 15- minute shifts for a pet visit, changing the bed sheets, and for medication reminder shifts. The nice thing is that you pay for the time period instead of the task, so if you have someone come to assist you with laundry, they will be more than happy to assist with anything else that is needed during that time.

Another service that we offer is respite care. It can be tough to always be a caregiver to a spouse or loved one. In some situations, the caregiver forgets to care for themselves as they are always taking care of someone else. We want to prevent caregiver burnout and to help both parties have the best quality of life. Caregiver burnout can affect the caregiver’s health just as much as the person receiving the care. You are not able to give the best care if you are not at your best. We like to be able to help take some of the stress off the caregiver’s shoulders and allow them to have some personal time to themselves; while also having peace of mind that your loved one is being properly cared for in your absence.

The medical services that are provided by Beatitudes at Home include CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistant), LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurse) and RN’s (Registered Nurse). These services will target more of the medical needs. For example, our clinical staff is able to assist with catheter care, monitoring blood pressure, colostomy care, medication management and many other medical needs. Setting up certain medical care could take a couple of days for us to get started. For these types of services, your doctor will need to write orders which lets the nursing staff know exactly what services he would like provided. For that reason, we would need additional paperwork from you doctor; however, that won’t be a concern of yours. We will handle getting all the information that is needed after you request the services.

The non-medical and the medical services are a private pay service that is billed right to your normal Beatitudes bill each month. It is a good idea to get set up as a client even before needing any extra assistance, especially for emergencies. There is no charge to be set up as a client. You are only billed for what you use.* All you have to do is call the office and we can schedule a time to meet in person and get you set up as a client.

*must cancel at least 24 hours prior to the start of the shift, otherwise you could still be charged.

At the foundation of Beatitudes Campus is the vision of Church of the Beatitudes pastors and congregation members to create a better alternative for older adults than the nursing homes of the early 1960s. The type of community they imagined was the first of its kind in Arizona. Beatitudes Campus is proud to continue the legacy of our founders, by being a leader in the field of aging services for over 50 years.
