State of the Campus – August 11

BeInspired LIVE with Michelle & David | 11

The spread of coronavirus in Arizona has been slowing in the weeks after implementation of face mask requirements throughout Arizona and closing businesses such as bars and gyms and restricting occupancy. We, as a state and as a campus, seem to be getting a handle on this for now, but indications are that there will still be tough times ahead for Arizona and the country.

Multiple key metrics about the severity of Arizona's pandemic, including coronavirus-related hospitalizations, are at or near the lowest they've been in a month or more. The rolling seven-day average for newly reported cases was 1,146.57 yesterday, August 10, the lowest it has been since June 10. The seven-day average of newly reported deaths dipped to 53.57, the lowest since July 11. These metrics show that what we are doing, with what we know, seem to be working at mitigating the spread of coronavirus. Right now, Beatitudes Campus has six active COVID-19 cases (1 resident and five staff) and 83 individuals have recovered (27 residents and 56 staff). You can view Beatitudes Campus metrics at the end of this letter.

At the end of last week, we re-tested 24 residents on the third and fourth floors in the Health Care Center; we received the results yesterday and all residents tested negative! That is wonderful news! Today, we are doing another all-staff mass testing; so far, we have done 1,754 tests on staff. I do want to report that a team member who worked in Buckwald's fell ill last week, and over the weekend tested positive for COVID-19. Tomorrow, staff and residents in Assisted Living will be tested by the Arizona Department of Health Services. Residents will get the PCR (nasal swab), and staff will get the serology blood test IgG/IgM.

Thank you for the confidence and trust you have in Beatitudes Campus. We are moving in the right direction at campus, and, with the added knowledge that we have now that we didn't have back in January, we will be better able to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
