Beatitudes Community

State of the Campus | Oct. 16

Resilient. Strong. Fun-loving. Tough. Family oriented. These words describe Mrs. Roberta McCain, mother of Arizona Senator John McCain, who passed away this week at the age of 108 years. Our hearts and prayers are with the McCain family as they mourn this tremendous loss. Mrs. McCain redefined the stereotypes of aging through her life, her spirited views on the world and her dedication to family. She embraced life by lifelong learning, reading and traveling the world. With her words and actions, she was a visible symbol of joyful aging. Our residents who live at Beatitudes Campus embrace a similar path. I have learned in my many years here at the campus that I can never underestimate the power of our residents and the gifts they bring to this community. I am privileged to serve all of our high-spirited and lively residents who call Beatitudes Campus home.

As I have said before, we are re-opening the campus in a staged and purposeful way with our top priority being the health and safety of our residents, staff and community. Last week, we announced a few changes in visitation and deliveries within Independent Living. We are getting the kinks out and all seems to be going well with these changes. Next week, starting Tuesday, October 20, we are re-opening the Bistro for dining for Independent Living residents only for breakfast, and dinner. Reservations must be made. The dining room will be laid out in compliance with the CDC and state guidelines. Dining staff will be temperature checking all residents who are eating in the Bistro. Residents will be social distanced, two per table and we will accommodate a maximum of 40 residents. Outdoor seating will also be available. I know that many residents will want to take advantage of this opportunity, but, of course, I understand that not everyone will feel comfortable eating in the Bistro, so the team will continue to offer pick up or delivery of all meals. I hope that this move will help ease the isolation that many are feeling.

I am pleased to announce that, in our Early Memory Support (EMS) neighborhood, visitation has resumed, as we have received two weeks of residents and staff testing negative for COVID-19. This is very welcome ! Visitation in our other licensed areas – /Assisted Living and the Health Care Center – are going well. Thank you for following the visitor guidelines and policies. You can review visitation policies on our website at https://beatitudescampus.org/beatitudes-family/ and clicking on Visitor Guidelines and Forms.
This past Tuesday, we did COVID-19 antigen testing on 257 staff and contractors and we are pleased to report that for the second week in a row all test results came back negative. We do feel that our adherence to mask wearing, hand hygiene and social distancing are key to these results. As of today, no residents have COVID-19. We do have one staff member who was diagnosed with COVID-19 two weeks ago and was hospitalized this week due to complications. We pray for a full recovery.

Thank you for your continued trust. If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Stay safe!
My best,
Michelle Just, President and CEO
