Transportation Updates

Due to current, and health concerns, campus transportation has reverted to Safeway for our weekly shopping trips and will continue with them until further notice. Some of the reasons we switched from Fry's to Safeway are issues with safety, unwanted solicitation around the entrance to the store, lack of available assistance from /management, constant unavailable carts to use and most importantly cleanliness during our current .

On October 20th it was announced publicly that Fry's Corporation has ended the sanitizing of their shopping carts, stating that there are wipes available for customers to do it themselves. On October 21st I was informed by a Fry's employee that “our” Fry's hasn't been sanitizing the carts for months.

On October 22nd it was brought to my attention by a resident that while shopping at Fry's they witnessed 13 or more employees and customers without masks on while the overhead PA system simultaneously was announcing that “everyone must wear a mask”. When they approached staff to ask why they were not wearing masks they were told that management does not mandate it because they don't want to deal with any conflict among those who choose not to wear them.

Safeway, on the other hand, has been very sanitary, staff has been more than willing to assist and the in itself is much safer. Shopping carts are always readily available and you can always see a staff member wiping them down after each use. We encourage you, if you have not already, to take a trip to Safeway and experience the benefits that this store has to offer.

Seating on the bus for grocery trips will still be limited until further notice so be sure to call in your reservation to x12905. Also please keep “ distancing” while entering and exiting the bus as well as when waiting to retrieve your groceries. If you are using this service and plan on writing a check at Safeway, please be sure to take your photo ID as it will be required. In general when out in public please be aware of your surroundings, practice social distancing, wear your mask at all times and wash your hands frequently if possible.

I agree. We went to Frys and were actually frightened at how many people (staff included) were not wearing masks, or wearing them improperly. Also, they have actually stated "We are not sterilizing carts any more. If somebody wants their cart sterilized, we offer wipes at the entrance." Albertson's (19th and Norther) is better, and offers prices similar to Fry's. It's also usually not as busy. Safeway is our "go to" place these days.
