SuCaSa Coming Soon!

For years, the Department has dreamt of having an apartment on campus that would allow us to showcase technology and adaptive equipment to optimize residents' quality of life, and that dream is finally becoming a reality.

Imagine an apartment you could visit to trial high and low tech devices, such as an Alexa or even a bidet, with the option of ordering those devices if they are helpful. In the past, when residents have had difficulty with a physical or cognitive task in the home, the Success Matters Department would work with them to order the right piece of technology to improve their lives. Examples have included special lighting for low vision, TV headsets for hearing loss, automated pill dispensers for those who might forget to take their medications, a couch cane for someone who may need a little boost getting up – the list goes on. While we are happy to provide this service, there are times the device doesn't meet the needs of the in the way we anticipated. Other times, residents who may greatly benefit from a technology are reluctant to purchase it without knowing whether it will actually be of use to them.

In the coming months, however, our “smart apartment” will be your “smart apartment.” With a generous grant from the Beatitudes Foundation and the support of our Marketing Department to find a suitable apartment on Campus, Success Matters is happy to announce that we will be converting Central Park West 3287 into SuCaSa, which is a clever acronym our Resource Navigator Josephine Levy devised for the Success Matters Campus Smart Apartment.

We are currently in the process of outfitting the apartment with furniture and artwork to make it look like a home, and we are actively purchasing the types of low and high tech devices that have been of greatest interest to residents in the past along with a few technologies you may have never seen!

Our department has also had the pleasure of working on this project with Erin Richardson, an NAU doctoral student who is completing her culminating capstone work in the field of aging in place with a special interest in adaptive technology for older adults.
With Erin's , we aim to transform CPW3287 into an engaging, interactive space where residents can freely explore devices that may, in turn, transform their lives. Stay tuned for exciting news regarding an open house in the coming months.

At the foundation of Beatitudes Campus is the vision of Church of the Beatitudes pastors and congregation members to create a better alternative for older adults than the nursing homes of the early 1960s. The type of they imagined was the first of its kind in Arizona. Beatitudes Campus is proud to continue the legacy of our founders, by being a leader in the field of aging services for over 50 years.
