Driving Decisions: Staying Safe on the Road Ahead

With years of , older drivers are some of the safest drivers. In fact, older drivers are more likely to wear seatbelts and less likely to speed or drink and drive. However, older drivers are also more likely to have physical, visual, hearing, and memory impairments that can influence their ability to drive safely, and it can difficult to know when to make the decision to stop driving.

This October, Success Matters would like to highlight two on Campus intended to help older adult drivers adapt to age-related driving changes.

On Tuesday, October 15th at 1PM in the Agelink Great Room, Success Matters will be presenting on the topic of Driving Decisions and Transportation Options. This seminar will address when to consider giving up the keys and alternate transportation ideas to maintain your independence. No registration is required for this .

For those who are interested in staying safely behind the wheel, the American Medical Association recommends all older adult drivers participate in a Driver Check-up annually. At our Driver Safety Check-up event on Tuesday, October 22nd at 1PM and Thursday, October 24th at 9AM participants have an to be screened by NAU occupational therapy students in areas of reflexes, leg strength, vision, range of motion, and other factors that contribute to safe driving. The students will also be providing specific tips and feedback on any areas that could be improved for safer driving. Registration is required – call Jessica at x16110 to reserve a spot.
